LOUISVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18)– Bad storms over the weekend caused a rescue boat to sink.It happened around 10 p.m. Friday on the Ohio River.A Louisville Division of Fire’s rescue boat, which is moored next to the Belle of Louisville’s boat house, was damaged; causing a crack to its hull that may have led to its sinking.Recovery operations of the vessel are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The entire operation is expected to last about three hours.Secured where it sunk, the boat remains by the Belle’s boat house and its recovery will not interfere with the Belle’s scheduled operations, or jeopardize the general public’s safety. According to Captain Salvador Melendez of the Louisville Division of Fire, while answering questions to inquiries from media he incorrectly stated that, "our boat appeared to have been stricken by the Belle of Louisville.  I would like to correct the record and state that at this time we do not know how our boat was damaged and that an investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the damage and the vessel’s sinking."
