NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) – Police are on the scene of a standoff in Nicholasville. They say an individual with warrants is refusing to leave a home on North Central.Officials say the man, Shawn Barnett, who has a felony parole violation, was arrested earlier in the week. The individual was granted bond and was released. Now, police are asking him to come out of the house but he is refusing. The neighborhood isn’t being evacuated.A negotiator with a SWAT team said, “This is serious now. It’s not too late to negotiate. We want to know you’re safe.”A few minutes later, our crews heard some noise and saw some motion. A few minutes after that, a woman ran out of the house and a negotiator said, "she’s safe."Police told LEX 18 that the woman that ran out of the home was not a hostage, but she just happened to be in the home at the time. On the speaker, a possible family member or friend said “You have family and friends that want you to be safe. Be a man – come out."On the speaker right now:“You have family and friends that want you to be safe.”“Be a man – come out.”It was a man’s voice. Possibly a friend/family member.Heard a few more booms a few minutes ago. Not sure what it was.— Karolina Buczek (@Karolina_Buczek) July 26, 2018Police have shot tear gas/pepper spray into the home. They hope it is a matter of time before Barnett comes out.
