LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – The Becker Law Office is warning the public of a scam involving their offices.
According to the company, someone is posing over the telephone as being either a lawyer or a paralegal from the Becker Law Office. The caller tells the potential victim that the Becker Law Office is about to file a lawsuit against them, which could result in a large monetary judgment or even jail.
Then they advise that they need a credit card payment so that the lawsuit will “go away”. The one posing as an attorney said his name was Steve Brown. The other male advised that his name was “Johnny” and that he was a paralegal.
The caller ID on the potential victim’s phone shows as one of Becker Law Office’s many fax numbers. Their IT department has discovered at least 80 attempts to call the fax number in Lexington. Four potential victims have now reported this “spoofing” scam. The callers are spread out over Kentucky; one was from Lexington, one was from Mt. Washington in Bullitt County, and one was from the far reaches of Eastern Kentucky.
The company says so far, no one has fallen for the trick.
