SLADE, Ky. (LEX 18) — The search for a missing hiker has entered its third day in Red River Gorge.

Crews from Powell, Menifee, Wolfe and Lee Counties were back in the woods at 8 a.m. on Friday to continue the hunt for Les Reynolds of Florence.

Reynolds was camping with family when he became lost Tuesday evening. He apparently called his mother around 9:30 p.m. saying he was lost. He was supposed to meet a cousin at a trailhead about 10:30 p.m. but never showed up.

Reynolds’ family said he was an avid camper and hiker, but he also suffered a brain injury from a car crash and suffers from a mental illness. A big concern is that Reynolds has been off his medication and has been known to carry a gun.

Rescue crews said they found his campsite in the area but have yet to locate the man. They have brought search dogs to aide in locating Reynolds.

Crews ask that hikers avoid Bison Way Trail until Reynolds is found.
