TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (LEX 18) – Two Kentuckians are being investigated after six baby loggerhead turtles were found in their hotel room’s trash can Tuesday.

A housekeeper at the hotel tipped off the Marine Science Center after she found the babies in a trash can filled with water.

The room belonged to Danielle Tosh and Michael House, of Nelson County. Police in Tybee Island made contact with them and House told deputies he had found the turtles in the parking lot. According to the arrest citation, the police officer wrote that he knew that it was geographically unlikely that the turtles had wandered that far away from the water.

After additional questioning, House and Tosh eventually admitted that they picked the turtles up off the beach and took them back to the hotel. They also admitted to being intoxicated while doing that.

Staff from the Marine Science Center took the turtles and released them after checking them out.
