GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. (WLWT/WSB) –  Warning: This story contains disturbing details that may be upsetting to readers

A Georgia mother is accused of starving her daughter to death.

WSB reports Devin Moon, 29, of Lilburn, was arrested Wednesday night after the medical examiner determined her 3-year-old child was severely underweight and died from malnutrition.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports Moon called 911 on July 24 after she found her daughter, Reygan Moon, cold and unresponsive. Paramedics pronounced the girl dead when they arrived.

At the time of her death, Reygan weighed just 14 pounds, half the weight of a normal 3-year-old.

“The officers on scene immediately thought she had been starved to death,” Sgt. Jake Smith with the Gwinnett County Police Department said.

Moon told detectives that her daughter was born with a medical issue that prevented her from gaining weight. An autopsy did not uncover any disorder that would have caused her to be underweight.

Investigators found Moon would leave her daughter alone most nights while she worked as a dancer at a club. Her family members family called the Division of Child and Family Services on her about a year ago. Police said this is when Moon stopped communicating with relatives.

Moon was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail on felony murder and first-degree cruelty to children charges.
