LINCOLN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A motorcyclist from Harrodsburg died early Sunday morning after a crash in Lincoln County.

The Lincoln County Coroner’s Office says 49-year-old Robert Ray Shewmaker was pronounced dead about 1 a.m. at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Authorities say the crash happened about 11 p.m. on U.S. Highway 27 near Shake Rag Road.

The Sheriff’s Office tells LEX 18 that a pickup truck and motorcycle crashed. The truck driver was not hurt.

Shewmaker was being airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with life-threatening injuries when he was diverted to Ephraim because his condition deteriorated.

The cause of death was blunt force trauma. Shewmaker was not wearing a helmet, officials said.

U.S. 27 was shut down for several hours while crews worked the scene.
