BOURBON COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) Five people were hurt after a car crashed into a Bourbon County Church Sunday.

It happened at the Silas Baptist Church in Paris just before 6 p.m. Sunday.

The sheriff said that a man was driving about 60 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone when he overcorrected. The car travelled 400 feet off the road and then went a full car’s length into the church.

The sheriff told LEX 18 that an evening service was going on at the time and three church members were hurt, two of them were taken to the hospital. Two people inside the car were taken to the hospital.

"Very surprising, we never dreamed anything like this. You know if you like at the hillside here to come over the hill, go that distance of the yard and still hit the church that hard where the entire car was inside the church. It’s amazing we didn’t have more that were hurt," said Church Pastor Curtis Coots.

Deputies do not believe that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The church pastor said that the building is more than 150 years old and they plan to rebuild as soon as possible.
