NELSON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– A Bardstown woman is working hard to return a folded American flag to an Indiana family.

Katie Marks bought the flag at a local peddler’s mall and says was shocked it was up for sale.

The flag had a piece of paper attached to the front of it, saying it was in memorial for a veteran named Samuel.

After doing a lot of research on social media, marks got in touch with Samuel’s nephew.

Now she wants to take it to him in Indiana.

"There’s no reason he should be sold at a peddler’s mall — his flag anyway. The military has just always been really near and dear to my heart. I love my country in lieu of whatever may be going on. We are all the United States of America."

Marks says Samuel’s nephew was forced to sell the flag due to financial issues.

She’s since started a GoFundMe page to help support him.

At last check that page has raised around $1,800.
