ESTILL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Police arrested an Irvine man Wednesday on arson charges after two fires were set Wednesday morning at an apartment building on Valley Drive.

Irvine Police charged Joseph Lambert, who they said lives next door to the apartment building.

Police say Lambert confessed to starting both fires.

The first fire was started in the kitchen of the first-floor apartment. Then the fire department was called back a few hours later to a fire on the second floor.

One man tells LEX 18 that he was leaving for work when he saw the smoke.

"Was headed over the hill and seen black smoke rolling in. And I stopped, and called the fire department," said Robert Dannelly.

The department said that no one was living there at the time of the fires and they’re being investigated as a possible arson.

"It’s kind of close to my family. I’m not too thrilled about it. I’ve got my baby girl at home and all that and I worry about them," said Dannelly.

The Irvine Fire Department said that a man was seen running from the fire and was taken in for questioning. The Police Department said that the investigation is ongoing.
