BARDSTOWN, Ky. (LEX 18) – The lone suspect in a notorious disappearance case was in court Thursday to answer to theft charges.

Brooks Houck, the only suspect in the disappearance of Cyrstal Rogers, is accused of stealing hundreds of dollars worth of shingles from Lowe’s.  He is facing four felony counts of theft by unlawful taking over $500 or more but under $10,000 and four Misdemeanor counts of theft by unlawful taking under $500.

Houck was the last person to see Crystal Rogers before her 2015 disappearance. The mother of five’s car was found along the side of the Bluegrass Parkway.

He has denied any involvement in the case.

Houck pleaded not guilty to the theft charges and will be back in court in January.

Members of Rogers’ family were in court for the arraignment.

Sherry Ballard told LEX 18 that while she wishes he were in jail for her daughter’s disappearance, she’s glad to see Houck in court for anything.

"I know it has nothing to do with my daughter. But it does show what kind of a person Brooks Houck is," said Ballard.
