FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)- The man accused of killing his ex-wife pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Derek Garten is accused of shooting and killing Margaret Elizabeth Smith. Smith was found dead at her home on Meadow Glen Drive last month with a gunshot wound to the head.
She had a protective order against Garten who appeared to take responsibility for her death in a Facebook post.
He wrote that he "shot Meg and would do it again. She was evil."
Garten was arrested after a barricade situation at the Bryan Station Inn.
The suspect pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, tampering with physical evidence, and terroristic threatening.
