(LEX 18)– Russia influencing American politics is undoubtedly one of the hottest topics in Washington.
And Senator Rand Paul is in Moscow this week, on a mission to strengthen ties between the US and Russia.
Paul met with Russia’s Foreign Affairs Committee on Monday, telling them he wants to open a dialogue between the two super powers.
He told reporters that relations between the two countries have hit a low point, but the two countries need to get past their differences and work toward a common good.
He also announced that he’s invited Russian lawmakers to Washington for another meeting.
"We have also agreed if it has been arranged to meet as well in a neutral country with all of our committees," Paul said. "So I think this is incredibly important and those who believe in either country that we should not have diplomacy, are greatly mistaken."
Paul is expected to meet more officials and speak again Tuesday.
His group also plans to visit Saint Petersburg.
