LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – The Domestic Violence Prevention Board has published an important resource for survivors of abuse.
A Survivor’s Handbook provides the most current information on legal protections and community resources in Fayette County for survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual violence and stalking. The handbook is available in print,PDF and online.
Victim’s advocates with the Lexington Police Department have printed copies of the handbook to distribute as well as area shelters, including Greenhouse 17 and The Nest.
“We know that many adult survivors, their children, friends and families use the internet to find information and to seek help. By providing this guide in print and online in an easy-to-navigate format, we hope that survivors will easily be able to access information about the court process, protections and available resources, said Stephanie Theakston, Domestic Violence Prevention Program Coordinator for the City.
Every day hundreds of thousands of adult survivors and children live with domestic violence, dating violence, sexual violence and stalking. As many as one in three women and one in ten men will experience this type of violence in their lifetime and more than three women are murdered every day in the United States by a current or former partner.
“Over the years many community partners have provided valuable insight and feedback for this handbook. We are very thankful to the members of the DVPB and their work to ensure the accuracy and evolution of this publication,” Theakston said.
