Investigators Look For Cause Of Dock Fire

Posted

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Investigators in Floyd County are trying to figure out what caused a fire that damaged a number of houseboats.

It happened Tuesday night at one of the docks at Prestonsburg’s Jenny Wiley State Park.

Park officials say a ranger noticed the fire around midnight and called the Prestonsburg Fire Department.

They say no one was inside any of the boats, and no one was hurt.

However, the fire destroyed three of the houseboats and damaged a few more.

"Anytime you have an incident like this, you check everything," said Park Ranger Julian Slone. "Something could’ve gotten damaged and it could cause problems later, so we’ll look at things to make sure that everything is safe because we don’t want to endanger anyone."

The burned boats have been removed, and it appears there has been no adverse effect on the lake.
