LEXINGTON, Ky (LEX 18) Wednesday was a big day in Fayette County as students headed to class to begin a new school year. Those riding the bus were greeted with a special surprise.

All school buses in Fayette County are now rolling libraries.

They are each stocked with a variety of different reading materials for students to take advantage of on the way to and from school.

The principal at Northern Elementary said that the new program fits perfectly with their school’s goal of getting students more excited about reading.

"The love of reading and having kids just be immersed in literature and so to have that carry over onto the bus, not only just in the school building and in the community just really puts it together for them as well," said Northern Elementary School Principal Meredith Ramage.

Almost 200 volunteers rode buses with students in Lexington to help get them excited about the books.
