CORBIN, Ky. (LEX 18)– A woman was arrested after she allegedly faked her own kidnapping to get money from her father.

Police say 19-year-old Abbygail Farley’s father reported her missing Monday morning.

On Tuesday, the father started receiving threatening text messages from Abbygail’s phone, demanding $600 and saying if they don’t get it, they’ll hurt her.

He started getting more texts, but from a different number, asking for $400 by a certain time, or they’ll ‘kill her.’

Authorities were able to ping Abbygail’s phone to somewhere in Gray and they called in the FBI to help in the search.

The father insisted on dropping off the money to her and once he did that, police went knocking on doors in the area.

Officials say occupants in one apartment they knocked on told police Abbygail was there, unharmed, and not being held against her will. They reportedly did not know what she had been doing.

Abbygail admitted to demanding the money because she needed to get out of town.

She’s being held in the Whitley County Detention Center and is facing charges of falsey reporting an incident, theft by extortion, TBUT or DISP all others under/$500, and second-degree disorderly conduct.
