LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– A big change is coming to Transylvania University’s campus, namely the crosswalk on busy North Broadway.

Flashing beacons have been added to the crosswalk between Third and Fourth Street, which are activated by a motion sensor whenever a pedestrian approaches the road.

The crosswalk itself has also been narrowed, and the sidewalks have been changed to steer pedestrians to use the crosswalk.

"With the new technology that we have, we’re hoping that it’s something that both drivers and pedestrians are able to use to make getting across North Broadway a lot easier and a lot smoother," said Megan Moloney, the VP for Marketing and Communications at Transy.

The project was funded by the state transportation cabinet.

The university is also closing off Small Street and the parking lot in front of the Carpenter Academic Center.
