CLINTON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– A fallen hero has returned home to Kentucky, almost 70 years after his death.

His family is finally laying him to rest Saturday.

Joe Elmore was declared "Missing In Action" during the Korean War, but DNA from his sister matched his remains.

Elmore was killed in combat in the Korean War in 1950, but his body wasn’t recovered for decades.

Finally, last month family DNA matched Elmore’s remains.

His body was flown to Nashville, and then his family was escorted to his hometown of Albany for a memorial service near his tombstone.

Elmore’s niece says the hardest part will be watching her mother say goodbye to another family member.
