PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – A ministry group has announced plans are in the works for a new state-of-the-art church to open in Pikeville that will be inclusive to the LGBTQ community.

Rainbow Flock Ministry wrote in a release that their new worship center will open where the former Magic Mart building is.

The non-denomination group writes that they hope to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to Eastern Kentucky’s growing, and often under-served, LGBTQ community.

According to the release, renovations to the facility include a dance floor with laser light show capabilities, reclining leather pews, rechargeable eHymnals, and a cedar meditation sauna.

Those renovations are expected to begin in the fall.

“While we hate to see a legendary institution close its doors,” said Rainbow Flock pastor/founder Clark E. Boyd, “we think that if Jesus had the opportunity to turn an old Magic Mart into a church for Appalachia’s LGBTQ+ community he’d jump out of his sandals at the opportunity, so we’re going to do just that. The folks here deserve it. We can’t wait to make Pikeville PROUD.”

Boyd says they hope to start planning events such as vegan-friendly barbecues, and concerts features Christian EDM and electronic artists.

The release also states that Magic Mart’s heir says the change is bittersweet because Pikeville has been good to them, but they are happy the building will be put to good use.
