LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Firefighters are working to determine the cause of an overnight fire.

It happened just after 2:30 a.m. Monday morning on West Third Street and Newtown Pike.

When crews arrived they saw heavy smoke coming from the windows, and flames coming through the back of a two-story building.

They were able to get the flames knocked down, but are still working to put out hotspots.

Officials say the upper floor of the building contains apartments.

There were some residents inside who did get out OK, but we’re told a dog is missing.

Right now, there no word on the extent of the damage, or the cause of the fire.
