LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Police say a man who was rebuffed in his attempt to rob an adult book store on Lexington’s east side went on a rampage early Sunday morning, causing thousands of dollars in damage.
Authorities say that 25-year-old William Ray Spears entered Video Max on Winchester Road just before 1 a.m. Police say Spears told employees he had a gun and demanded money.
Store employees tell LEX 18 that they didn’t believe Spears actually had a gun and told him to leave.
Instead, they say, Spears began toppling glass display cases and set fire to a T-shirt before fleeing.
An employee followed Spears out and tackled him on the sidewalk, where he was held until police arrived and took him into custody.
Spears was charged with robbery, arson, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
