DALLAS (LEX 18) – The Dallas Police Department has fired the officer who is accused of walking into the wrong apartment and shooting a man to death.

Police Chief U. Renee Hall announced the termination of Amber Guyger.

Guyger told investigators that she had just ended a 15-hour shift Thursday when she returned in uniform to the South Side Flats apartment complex. She parked on the fourth floor, instead of the third, where she lived, according to the affidavit, possibly suggesting that she was confused or disoriented.

That’s where police say she shot and killed 26-year-old Botham Jean.

Guyger was charged with manslaughter.

The department says she can appeal the decision.
