(NBC News) — Titanic is getting another shot to complete its doomed voyage.

The Blue Star Line announced Monday that work has begun on Titanic II. The ship will be operational in 2022 and will make the voyage from England to New York.

“Blue Star Line will create an authentic Titanic experience, providing passengers with a ship that has the same interiors and cabin layout as the original vessel, while integrating modern safety procedures, navigation methods and 21st-century technology to produce the highest level of luxurious comfort,’’ said Clive Palmer, chairman of the company.

The Titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in April of 1912, four days into the ship’s voyage from Southampton to New York City when it struck an iceberg. More than 1,500 people died.
