LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The man killed in a fiery crash involving a motorcycle and semi on Lexington’s far northwest side has been identified.

The coroner confirms 36-year-old Benjamin Murphy. He died of multiple blunt force injuries.

Crews were called out to Georgetown Road between Iron Works Pike and Spurr Road. Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn tells LEX 18 that the motorcyclist died following the collision.

The driver of the semi was uninjured.

The Lexington Traffic Management Center says the crash occurred near Red State BBQ. Officials said Georgetown Road will be closed “for an extended time.”

Inbound traffic from Georgetown is being diverted to Iron Works Pike. Outbound traffic from Lexington is being diverted to Spurr Road.

Photos and videos at the scene show crews battling a large fire with a massive column of black smoke rising into the air.
