ALBANY, Ky. (LEX 18) –  The man accused of slitting his 3-year-old niece’s throat appeared in a Clinton County courtroom to answer to charges related to her death.

Emanuel Flutur is accused of killing Josephine Bulubenchi in a violent attack.

He is facing charges of murder, assault and four counts of wanton endangerment. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf Tuesday.

According to an arrest citation, Flutur went into the toddler’s bedroom and slit her throat. The girl’s father, Flutur’s brother-in-law, rushed into the room “after hearing the screams on the baby monitor and tried to disarm Flutur,” the citation says.

The arrest citation states that there were four other children in the room at the time the girl was attacked.

The Clinton County Jailer says that Flutur showed no remorse for his actions and was extremely combative while in custody.

Flutur’s brother tells LEX 18 that he isn’t a monster and that he suffered a mental breakdown.

He remains in isolation at the detention center. A Gofundme fundraising account has been set to help the girl’s family.
