Pike County, Ohio Sheriff Investigating High-Profile Murder Case Now Facing Investigation

PIKE COUNTY, Oh. (LEX 18) – The sheriff who’s been investigating a high-profile murder case in Pike County, Ohio now faces his own investigation.

A Cincinnati TV station reports that court documents show Pike County appointed a special prosecutor to a case involving Sheriff Charles Reader.

Robert Smith with the State Auditor’s Office will investigate allegations of misconduct in the sheriff’s office.

You may recognize the sheriff’s name from a story that’s garnered national attention.

8 members of the Rhoden family were shot and killed in April of 2016.

Last month investigators arrested six members of the Wagner family in connection to the killing, including one who was arrested here in Lexington.

Two other members of the Wagner family are accused of covering up the murders.
