Nation’s Oldest WWII Vet Dies

AUSTIN, Texas (NBC DFW) — Richard Overton, once the nation’s oldest living World War II veteran, has died. He was 112.

He had just been released from the hospital after suffering from pneumonia. His family says he died from complications related to the illness.

Overton was born in Bastrop County, Texas and was inducted into the U.S. military on September 3, 1940 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

He served in the South Pacific from 1940 through 1945.
