Roger Burdette is an MSD worker who was driving an MSD truck when he allegedly slammed into the back of an LMPD detective’s cruiser as she was conducting a traffic stop. The collision, which LMPD Chief Steve Conrad called “catastrophic,” killed Det. Deidre Mengedoht instantly.

It happened on Monday, Christmas Eve, on Interstate 64 in downtown Louisville.

An MSD spokeswoman offered no further comment. It remains unclear whether David Lambertus, who has a history of successfully defending impaired-driving cases, will still represent Burdette. Regardless of who does, it’s also not known who will pay for his defense.

Mengedoht’s funeral is scheduled for Monday.
