CINCINNATI, Oh. (WLWT) – What’s that smell? It’s Bacon!

Whether it’s greasy or crispy, fatty or lean, for breakfast or dinner, Americans love themselves some strips of the pork product.

As if there’s any other reason to enjoy it, Sunday is National Bacon Day. If you can’t decide on what to do, here are five ways to celebrate bacon.

Dip it in your eggs

Bacon on its own is fantastic, but perhaps its best feature is how it enhances other foods and is complemented itself. One of the best examples is the classic bacon and eggs. A greasy breakfast is made perfect when you ditch your fork and scoop the egg yolk with an ideally shaped piece of crispy bacon. It’s good any time of day.

Top off that burger

Cheeseburger always stand out on a restaurant menu – at least until you see the bacon cheeseburger. The cripsy texture goes perfect with the soft hamburger meat while the salty taste perfectly offsets the cheese. The same goes for any sandwich-related bacon concoction: BLTs, clubs, grilled cheese, etc.

Eat healthy

On a diet? Crumble up some strips or chop it into bits. Bacon is a great salad topping. And no one will blame you if dump more than one scoop on top of that lettuce.

Share with the dog

Man loves bacon, and so does man’s best friend. You’ve seen the commercial. Sure, most pups will go for any table scraps, but they’ll perform any trick in the book for a strip of the good stuff. They’ve been good dogs this year, so let them celebrate, too.

“What Just Happened”: Kevin Bacon stars in a funny new PSA for Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas warning people not to text or talk during the movie. Bacon is dressed as a cop and threatens to take people to jail for disrupting the film. The PSA ties in perfectly to Bacon’s new movie “Cop Car” which comes out in August. Catch a Kevin Bacon flick

OK, you’re not wild about bacon. We won’t hold that against you. But you can still enjoy the day by watching your favorite Kevin Bacon movie. There are some cult gems like “Tremors” or “Hollow Man,” and he’s been in some genuine classics such as “Apollo 13” and “Mystic River.” Then again, any movie you watch leads back to the actor, thanks to Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.
