SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) –  Deputy Jamie Morales, who was shot and injured in the line of duty, is engaged to his longtime girlfriend.

According to a post shared by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Morales proposed in late 2018.

Morales was shot in September of 2018 while attempting to apprehend a serial bank robber. He was partially paralyzed but has not let the setbacks affect his willpower.

“2018 was a humbling and wonderful year. I started a new job, earned a couple of raises, met Jaime Morales, cheered Jaime on through the toughest challenge he will ever face in his life, gained new friends, was asked to be the Maid of Honor in my best friend’s wedding, and GOT ENGAGED 😍💍💋💕. Although a couple of those months were filled with tears and pain, they helped shape the relationship Jaime and I have now 💏. 2019 came quick but I’m still here cheering Jaime on, watching him progress, preparing to apply for another degree, working towards a new certification, and enjoying the engagement as the future Mrs. 217. Let’s see what you got 2019,” reads the post written by Morales’s girlfriend.

Congratulations to the happy couple.
