LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – The YMCA of Central Kentucky wants to help furloughed government employees keep their memberships during the partial government shutdown.’

Federal employees affected by the current partial federal government shutdown who are Y members and worried about paying dues, or those that are not members that were considering joining the Y but cannot at this time due to their furlough, should come into one of the Association’s six local branches in Lexington or Frankfort or call to discuss possible options.

“What’s unique about the YMCA is that we do not turn anyone away because of an inability to pay,” said David Martorano, CEO of the YMCA of Central Kentucky. “We offer financial assistance on an individual basis, which can be used for programs such as swim lessons, after school child care or YMCA memberships.

“We know that this time is stressful for those families directly impacted,” he said. “We’re here to help.”
