KSP Investigates Shooting Involving Trooper And Suspect At The Barren County Detention Center

BARREN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – Kentucky State Police is investigating a shooting that happened at the Barren County Detention Center.

KSP arrested 26-year-old Matthew Stapleton of Adair County on Saturday evening and took him to jail.

According to KSP, when they arrived, Stapleton got out of the trooper’s patrol car and a fight happened between the two.

Reportedly Stapleton pulled a handgun from his waistband and it went off, hitting him

Stapleton was flown to University of Louisville Hospital where he’s in critical condition.

The trooper wasn’t hurt and has been placed on administrative leave.

The investigation is being led by the KSP Critical Incident Response Team.
