CASEY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Casey County is the latest school district to close due to illness.
The district announced Wednesday it would be closed for the remainder of the week because of sickness.
A nurse practitioner with Casey County Primary Care says she’s seen many children who attend the county schools in their office with flu symptoms.
The office says as of Wednesday, they had 19 confirmed flu cases.
Though that number seems high, the nurse practitioner says in her opinion this year’s flu isn’t as bad as last year’s considering last year’s flu hit more intermittently.
“This year, to hit us this hard, we went through two kits, within two days, said Britni Barnett. “Which is a lot of flu swabs.”
Casey County Schools will be back in session Monday.
In the meantime, health experts say the easiest way to prevent the flu from spreading is to wash your hands.
