(WBIR) — A group that aids Appalachian bears in need is raising money after finding a sick young bear in a ditch near Black Mountain in Kentucky.

WBIR reports that Appalachian Bear Rescue is working to bring the 13-month-old bear, which they’ve named Hartley Bear, back to health.

The group is raising money to “adopt” Hartley, offering customized shirts and certificate to those who donate $50 to the cause.

Officials said Hartley weighted 12 pounds, was missing fur and was infested with ticks when he was found.

The bear was taken to University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine for immediate treatment.

ABR says Hartley is the group’s 282nd rescue.
