LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)- Fayette County School officials confirm that a student was found with a knife at Garden Springs Elementary.

Parents were notified of the incident via an email from principal Joey Sheroan Wednesday morning.  Here is that email in its entirety.

Dear Garden Springs Elementary School Families:

One of my top priorities as principal at Garden Springs Elementary is to make sure we have open lines of communication between home and school. Just as we hope you will let us know about situations at home that affect your children, we want you to trust that we will inform you anytime something unusual happens at school.

I’m writing today to make you aware that one of our students had a steak knife at school today. Our administrative team worked together to investigate the situation, and I assure you that appropriate action has been taken.

This incident provides the perfect opportunity for us to reinforce with our children that knives are never allowed at school. Please help as at home by talking with your children about the importance of not bringing any item that would be considered dangerous to school with them, and by monitoring the things they put in their backpacks.

Any time we have a health or safety incident on campus, we want to be sure our families have accurate information directly from us. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 381-3388. Thank you for the privilege of working with your children and for understanding that we take this matter very seriously.
