LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A special moment took place Saturday night at the Kentucky high school basketball Sweet Sixteen tournament.

Two student athletes who were wounded in last year’s mass shooting at Marshall County High School were honored for their resilience.

Griffen Ives and Mason Cosner were shot during the rampage that left two of their classmates dead and several others injured.

Both have recovered and returned to competing in sports. Ives plays baseball, while Cosner runs for the track team.

University of Kentucky Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine has named the pair as Comeback Players of the Year.

They were recognized at half time of one of the Sweet Sixteen games.
