LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — While UK fans are painting Nashville blue, the home of the Cats will be awash in a sea of green.

Lexington’s St. Patrick’s Parade and Irish Festival kicks off Saturday morning.

Before the all-day partying begins, some people were getting ready for a little workout. The annual Shamrock Shuffle 3K foot race begins at 8 a.m. Proceeds benefit the Lexington Habitat for Humanity.

And what better way to celebrate finishing the race than a glass of green beer? The festival starts off with the Blessing of the Keg at 10:45 a.m.

The event that everyone is looking forward to — the 40th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade — steps off at 1 p.m.

Floats will travel down Main Street, from Midland Avenue to Mill Street.

The parade is the city’s longest-running civic event.
