LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The city of Lexington was rocking Friday night as University of Kentucky Wildcats fan poured out of bars and onto State Street to celebrate the win over Houston.

There were times during the game when a Cats victory appeared to be in doubt. But there was never a question where Big Blue Nation would gather to celebrate.

“Nerve-wracking for sure,” said fan Jack Mautino. “Yeah, I was shaking the whole time. For sure, absolutely. Still shaking a bit. Still can’t believe it. Thought we blew that 13-point lead, but we’re good. We’re good. Bring on Auburn, we’re ready.”

The party that broke out was rowdy but thankfully didn’t result in mass arrests or destruction.

Thousands of UK fans flooded the area to cheer on the Cats moving on to the Elite Eight.

“Thank God we won,” said fan Sydney Howard. “I mean, that was a big win. We’re so excited, we’re ready for the next one.”

Fans took photos with heavily armored police officers, who moved into the area to keep an eye on revelers.

Two people were arrest for disorderly conduct, and two others were treated for minor injuries at an area hospital after the game.

But unlike in some past celebrations, no cars were flipped and no couches were burned.
