BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – One man was flown to the hospital following a head-on crash between a pickup truck and motorcycle in Boone County.

Boone County Sheriff’s Office deputies reportedly were called to Rabbit Hash Road in Union just after 4:00p.m. on Saturday.

Witnesses told deputies that the motorcycle, driven by Carlos Rodriguez, 27, of Florence was traveling north when he lost control on a curve and crossed into the southbound lane. Deputies say Rodriguez hit a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Brendon Dye, 25, of Florence, despite Dye trying to avoid the crash.

Rodriguez was thrown from the motorcycle. Both the motorcycle and pickup caught fire and soon became engulfed in flames.

Deputies say Rodriguez was airlifted to UC Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Reportedly he wearing helmet at the time of the crash.

Dye and his passenger, Robert Dye, 50, of Florence were wearing seat belts and were not hurt. Both the pickup truck and motorcycle appear to be a total loss due to the fire.

The crash is under investigation.
