Suspect In Townhouse Fire Now Facing Burglary Charge

LEXINGTON (LEX 18) — Troubles continue to mount for a man accused of setting fire to a Lexington town home.

Early last Saturday, a fire caused extensive damage to the structure, displacing six residents.

Police arrested Cornelius Murphy and charged him with first-degree arson and violating an interpersonal protective order.

Prosecutors recently added a burglary charge after a witness came forward, saying Murphy was seen kicking in a door to gain entry to the townhouse shortly before the fire started.

Murphy was required by the protective order to stay away from the residence and not damage any property.
