BOYLE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Several thousand people were without power early Sunday morning in Boyle County following a fire at an electrical substation.

The culprit behind the outage: a raccoon.

Officials say a raccoon got into a substation overnight and caused a fire, heavily damaging equipment.

The outage affected Kentucky Utility customers in the western half of the county, including the entire city of Perryville.

The county’s emergency management director estimated the blackout affect about 3,000 customers.

Power since has been restored.
