U.S. Army Soldier From Madison County Dies In Iraq

(LEX 18) – The U.S. Department of Defense announced on Sunday that a soldier from Kentucky has died while serving in Iraq.

Reportedly Spc. Ryan Dennis Orin Riley, 22, from Richmond, Kentucky was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

The DOD reports that he died on Saturday in Ninawa Province, Iraq from a non-combat related incident.

Riley’s death remains under investigation.

Riley was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 32nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

According to The Army Times, Riley’s decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Korea Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon and the Combat Action Badge.

The paper also reports that Riley enlisted in 2016, he was promoted in 2018 and arrived in Iraq in December.
