LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – On Saturday a group of veterans received a long overdue heroes’ welcome home at Blue Grass Airport.
There were plenty of hugs and tears after Honor Flight Kentucky took them on a whirlwind trip to Washington D.C.
74 veterans from around Kentucky got the chance to see the war memorials built in honor of their sacrifices.
After a huge sendoff, a big group gathered to welcome them home and thank them for their service.
Many veterans say no one greeted them at the airport when they first returned home from war and very few ever have said thank you.
“I can’t say the words that would give it the true meaning that it’s meant to me,’ said Vietnam Veteran James Jeffries.
