MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – A Mercer County High School senior was killed and another student was hurt in a crash in Madison County on Saturday morning.
The coroner says 18-year-old Marcus Lewis II died in the wreck.
A release from Mercer County schools says that Lewis was driving another student to Richmond for a National Guard drill when the car left the road and slammed into a tree.
According to a post on the Mercer County High School Titan Track Team Facebook page, Lewis was an accomplished runner and the team and coaches are devastated.
The other student is recovering at a local hospital but has not been identified.
School officials say counselors will be available in the coming weeks for students and staff who are grieving.
