LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – The Lexington Police Department has charged two teenagers in connection with a pair of recent shootings in the same neighborhood in Lexington.

Police say 19-year-old J’mari Taylor was arrested on Friday and charged with assault, drug possession and possessing a stolen firearm, in addition to being wanted on outstanding warrants.

Reportedly a 17-year-old male was also charged with wanton endangerment.

Police tell us the first shooting took place around noon last Tuesday on Laredo near the intersection with Walden Drive.

Police say witnesses told officers that several people in a car fired shots at people who were standing out on the street, and a 17-year-old male was hit. Neighbors told LEX 18 that they had seen a group of young guys standing out in the street shortly before the shooting happened, and they believe there may have been an ongoing dispute.

On Wednesday afternoon, another shooting was reported just a few blocks away. Police say a 34-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

Investigators now believe the shootings are connected and involved the same groups of people. Police say more people may be charged.

Police also noted that Taylor was in possession of a gun that had been reported stolen from a car.
