LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – On Saturday the 15th annual Fatherhood Initiative was hosted by the First African Baptist Church.

The goal is to encourage dads to be involved.

“Everyone kept telling me today it takes a village to raise children. and fathers are a very important part of that village,” said Raymond Smith. The event brings dads from all different walks of life together with their children and families.

They started their day today with a prayer and breakfast before heading to Douglass Park, where there was music and activities.

Organizers say they love this event so much because it really helps push dads to become the best they can be.

“My role model my hero is my father, and when you talk about the father in the family, that is one thing and one person that we look up to that holds the glue together, so when you see the father together with the family it can’t give you anything but happiness and joy,” said Smith.
