LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — When you think of Thanksgiving, your first thought is likely to be the big meal you enjoy with friends and family. However, some families aren't able to enjoy that.

That is why the AMEN House Food Pantry in Georgetown helps provide hundreds of Thanksgiving meals every year.

"The AMEN House specifically wants to help families create those traditions and create those memories inside their own kitchen," said Executive Director Michele Carlisle.

The AMEN House gives out these meals every year to those who may struggle to have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. They will provide a gift card so families can pick out a turkey or ham at the store.

The goal is to create enough meals to feed about 900 families. That's about 200 more families than they helped feed last Thanksgiving. It seems like a daunting task, but they say it's worth it.

"I just know in my family, we've never had to worry about what that grocery cart bill looks like when we walk into a grocery store and come out with every single item that we want for Thanksgiving,” said Carlisle. “We just want to make sure everybody that wants to have Thanksgiving can have Thanksgiving."

The AMEN House is still in need of donations though. They're looking for enough food to create 400 more meals by this Saturday.

"If you would just go to the grocery store and while you're there the next couple of days, pick up those items that we need and then bring them over to the AMEN House,” said Carlisle. “We do have Saturday hours this weekend. We're open from 9 a.m.-12 p.m."

For a full list of items still needed, you can visit the AMEN House’s Facebook page. They also accept monetary donations.

They are also still accepting families who need a Thanksgiving meal.
