'Armed and dangerous' suspect on the run after shootout with police

KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — One person is dead and another is on the run after a shootout with Kentucky State Police Tuesday afternoon in Knox County.

According to a release issued Wednesday morning, the KSP was serving a search warrant on Johnson Hollow Road Tuesday when gunfire broke out between police and armed suspects.

One person, whose name has not been released, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene by the Knox County Coroner.

KSP is actively searching for Joseph “Joey” R. Middleton, 41, of Gray, Ky., who was also involved in the shooting.

The suspect is roughly 6 feet tall, with hazel eyes, brown hair and was last seen wearing shorts with no shoes or shirt.

Middleton is wanted on four counts of attempted murder of a police officer and is considered armed and dangerous.
