MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — First responders in Marshall County said they believe a 14-year-old drowned at the Kentucky Dam Marina on Sunday.
It took hours of searching to locate the boy's body.
Marshall County Rescue Crews said they jumped into action at the Kentucky Dam Marina on Sunday, when a marina worker reported seeing a person go under the water and never come back up.
After a search, crews found the body of 14-year-old Brandon Martinez.
"We personally spoke with the mother and a sister and an uncle, so right now they're dealing with their emotions concerning this incident," said Curt Curtner, the Marshall County Deputy Coroner.
Curtner said a rescue like this one, with a victim so young, can be difficult.
"We all have children and grandchildren this age, so we can't let emotions bother us when we're on our missions... We just try to get them through the best we can and bring closure to the family," said Curtner.
First responders said they believe that Martinez drowned. According to Curtner, his mother said she believes he snuck out of the house.
